Water Appeal

 Delivering clear solutions

According to the World Health Organisation, around 768 million people in the world – about one in ten people – live without access to safe, clean water. A further 2.4 billion, one third of the world’s population, do not have adequate sanitation.

These people must choose between drinking, cooking and washing with dirty, contaminated water or no water at all. They are at constant risk of contracting waterborne diseases like dysentery, diarrhoea and cholera, which can be fatal.

A desperate situation

  • Every day, an estimated 4,000 children die of waterborne diseases
  • In Africa alone, diarrhoea kills more children under five than any other health issue, including AIDS
  • Women and young girls must walk miles each day to fetch clean water, putting themselves at significant risk
